Linux vs. Microsoft

Tuesday, May 2nd, 2006

My company, Promet Solutions Inc., is a big proponent of Open Source software. We recently had won a project with the US Army Electronic Proving Grounds to take over an application which was written in .NET asp. We decided to convert to open source rewriting it in PHP and MySQL. We had received some pushback from the Microsoft Camp.

Although I believe the argument of Microsoft vs. open source won’t quite go away for along while, I’d like to contribute a link to the good guys:

How to do what you love

I picked this up from slashtod and I though I would contribute to this links popularity because I enjoyed this article so much. Written by Paul Graham, How to do what you love

To do something well you have to like it. That idea is not exactly novel. We’ve got it down to four words: “Do what you love.” But it’s not enough just to tell people that. Doing what you love is complicated.

The very idea is foreign to what most of us learn as kids. When I was a kid, it seemed as if work and fun were opposites by definition.

Best thing since the Onion

Slavek (Przemyslaw, my brother) has decided to start an online publication. I nominate it as a worthy link of the week.

DaLeek

I wanted to give a little excerpt on its mission or content but since Slavek decided not to restrict himself in that way, I think the best way for you to experience the daleek is to see it for yourself. It’s pure silliness.
